Are you afraid of water? Would you like to learn the basics of how to learn to swim? I promise you, it’s going to be easy – really. I know a lot about fear that comes with learning to swim, especially with adults.
First you need to be relaxed. I know it sounds crazy, but when you are tense your muscles get tight. When your muscles are tight you are dense in the water and therefore you sink. If you relax, your muscles become buoyant and help you float and stay on top of the water. I begin in warm shallow water. Before you ever put your head underwater, you’ll learn the secret to keeping water from getting up your nose, and develop the confidence to hold your breath underwater. For some this is very difficult for others this is nothing.
After relaxation and submerging are accomplished with ease, I begin to teach floating. Before you ever attempt your first assisted front or back float, you’ll have observed and mastered the technique for how to find your footing and stand up from a front and back float.
Once you are relaxed, submerging, and floating confidently you are ready to learn to swim.
I’ve helped many adults overcome their fears, learn how to swim, feel comfortable in deep water, or improve their strokes. Initially, some felt embarrassed, too old or too scared – others felt they would never be able to get over their fear of drowning. It is never too late to enjoy all the benefits that water can offer.

I've tried several other local programs and we just were not making progress. Within a few lessons, Catch the Wave's fun and gentle program worked to ease my child's anxiety by teaching him the correct breathing and floating techniques. He now loves the water and is well on his way to swimming independently. I couldn't be happier!
