This class is designed for parents and children to bond in the water. The presence of the parent allows the child to comfortably develop a relationship with the water. Skill focus is on a comfortable submersion with a rollover into an independent back float position.
*** Enroll your child in Parent/Tot if under age 2. Age 2-3, opt for either Parent/Tot or Little Fins.
2-3 years old
A small group class (3 kids) geared towards helping the child ease into the lessons without a parent in the water. The class helps overcome separation anxiety and fear of going under water. The child can move to a Bronze Level when they are not crying, are comfortable under water and are able to participate in a class.
*** If your child is between 2&3 years old they must begin in Parent/Tot or Little Fins.
2 years old and up
This is our first swimming level with a focus on the basics. We teach the children the correct body position, how to float both front and back, and how to roll over to their backs to catch their breath in an emergency. Children are able to progress to the Silver Level when they are able to put their face in, swim 5-10 feet to the instructor, and float independently on their back.
*** To register for a bronze level the child must be absolutely comfortable with their face under water. No separation anxiety.
This class focuses on teaching each child the basics of breathing. If the child cannot breathe correctly then the stroke will be much more difficult to perform. We use specially designed techniques to teach flawless side and pop-up breathing right from the beginning.
*** To register for a Silver level be sure the child is able to float on their back and swim independently for 5-10 feet with their face in.
Silver plus swimmers are learning how to perform a flawless freestyle and backstroke. Here we utilize the breathing they previously learned to help perform the strokes for longer distances.
*** To register for Silver Plus be sure that your child knows how to perform side and pop-up breathing.
Gold level swimmers have learned the basics of the strokes and breathing already and are now working on perfecting the little details and increasing speed, distance and stamina. Here students will learn to coordinate butterfly and breaststroke. Those who have reached the Gold level have the option to join our Penguin Swim Team.
*** To register for a Gold level students must be fairly knowledgeable swimmers. They must know the basics of each stroke and be able to swim at least 1 length (25 yards).
Ages 4-18. Must be able to swim one length of the pool. Join the penguins as they race to be number one in the Rockford Summer Swim Conference. Sign up today!
I've tried several other local programs and we just were not making progress. Within a few lessons, Catch the Wave's fun and gentle program worked to ease my child's anxiety by teaching him the correct breathing and floating techniques. He now loves the water and is well on his way to swimming independently. I couldn't be happier!
